The Song of Echo (Draft 5)

Narcissus, my love, I am in pain,
For when you look you do not see
My body breaks      yet my voice remains.

Down by the waters you’re not the same
Entranced by reflections upon the sea.
Narcissus, my love I am in pain.

You are both the flower and the flame
Who haunts me in my life and my dreams.
My body breaks      yet my voice remains.

Somedays I believe I am to blame
And on these days I cannot bear to be.
Narcissus, my love, I am in pain.

I’ll wish that your eye would be tamed
So that it may only look to me,
My body breaks      yet my voice remains.

Shall I sing for you again again,
In hope you will hear my plea?
Narcissus, my love, I am in pain,
My body breaks
                               yet my voice remains.
